Lit review #3

The scholarly article I decided to focus on today was a study examining the effects of Covid-19 on undergraduate students' mental health. This study was done on a total of 164 students and was conducted through a cross sectional survey. These questions in the survey consisted of demographics including, behavior changes, mental health, everyday difficulties, and overall information on Covid. In this study it was found that In multivariable models, students other than freshmen were more likely to report higher levels of anxiety” (Kecojevic). Because these students were experiencing physiological symptoms due to the outbreak, more than likely these feelings would result in “somatization” which is when psychological symptoms that result in physical symptoms such as aches and pains in the joints and other areas depending on the person.  When assessing students somatization, depression, and anxiety, the researchers used “BS1-18 (Brief Symptom Inventory)” which was used to record the levels of mental burden that students were experiencing.  Along with the mental burden students were experiencing it was shown that “4 out of 5 students are facing financial difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic” (Kecojevic). Though these actions of social distancing loss of jobs are all in the best interest of “mitigating” the spread, which is the control over something that is widespread, and lessening the occurrence but this too has a draining effect on students. This study is going to benefit my research paper because it discusses the ins and outs of the cold's effect on students' mental health. I plan on using this quote talking about how Mental health issues can significantly impair students’ academic success and social interactions affecting their future career and personal opportunities.” (Kecojevic). This will be a key quote on focusing on the social isolation aspects of my paper as well the others.

Aleksandar Kecojevic is a Professor in the department of public health at William Paterson University. He has his DrPH at Drexel University for public health focusing on Community health and prevention. His knowledge on public health and prevention gives him a better background for the information he is giving about the effects of the Covid outbreak.
